Brazil courts issue heavy sentences for violent crimes

Various judicial rulings in Brazil have resulted in significant prison sentences for violent crimes. In Portão, a mother and stepfather were sentenced to 31 years each for the torture of two children. In Jaciara, Leandro Almeida da Silva received 24 years for an attempted feminicide that left his partner with severe injuries, including the loss of a lung. Additionally, Wanderson da Silva Ferreira was sentenced to over 53 years for feminicide and drug trafficking.

Other notable convictions include a man in Marialva sentenced to nearly 56 years for the rape and pregnancy of his daughter, and a man in Paty do Alferes receiving over 85 years for a series of crimes against his former partner and stepchildren. In Nova Mutum, three members of the PCC criminal organization were sentenced to a combined total of over 57 years for attempted murder. In Maceió, a public servant was sentenced to over 8 years for the 2014 death of a 13-year-old boy hit by a vehicle.

In Tramandaí, four individuals face trial for the 2018 murder of a hairdresser, allegedly motivated by family conflicts. Meanwhile, the São Paulo Court of Justice upheld the conviction of a teacher for the torture of 13 children in an Itaquera school.
