Brazil crime updates: Farah murder details and Teresópolis stabbing

In Brazil, investigations continue into two distinct violent incidents. In São Paulo, details have emerged regarding the 2003 murder of Maria do Carmo Alves by physician Farah Jorge Farah. Investigator Ítalo Miranda noted that Farah killed and dismembered the patient inside his clinic following a dispute over complications from plastic surgery. After the crime, Farah placed the body in a car trunk and checked himself into a psychiatric clinic. While the defense claimed a romantic relationship motivated the act, police investigations highlighted that the victim had sought reparations for surgical sequels.

In Teresópolis, five men were arrested following a stabbing attack on a transgender woman during a slam poetry event. The victim sustained serious injuries, including a punctured lung. Authorities believe the attack was motivated by transphobia and that the suspects are linked to neo-Nazi ideology. The group had previously been monitored for spreading hate speech against women and Black people. The suspects face charges including attempted feminicide, which carries a potential sentence of up to 40 years.
