Brazil crypto market faces new regulatory deadlines by 2026
Brazil's cryptocurrency market is undergoing a major regulatory shift as Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) face a deadline of October 30, 2026, to seek authorization from the Central Bank. According to a report by CertiK, these applications must now include independent compliance assurance reports.
Brazil currently holds the position of the world's fifth-largest cryptocurrency market, with on-chain transactions totaling US$ 318.8 billion over a twelve-month period. Stablecoins have become dominant in the region, accounting for approximately 80% of declared volume. Between 2019 and 2025, Brazilians moved roughly R$ 1.58 trillion in crypto assets, with R$ 1.13 trillion in stablecoins.
Security remains a critical concern. CertiK data indicates that approximately 69% of losses in the Web3 and crypto sectors result from the compromise of private keys and stolen credentials rather than network vulnerabilities. Additionally, the report notes that US$ 1.32 billion was lost to hacker attacks during the first half of 2026. The new regulatory framework aims to integrate the market into the National Financial System, imposing stricter requirements for governance, asset segregation, and capital minimums.
