The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) issued an emergency decree for a 40‑meter stretch of the BR‑324 highway in Simões Filho, part of the Salvador metropolitan area. The decree, published in the Official Gazette on 14 July, responds to a crater that opened on kilometre markers 606.81‑606.84 after an old culvert beneath the road collapsed, causing a severe subsidence described by DNIT as “recalque decorrente do processo erosivo”.

Both left lanes in each direction remain closed, with traffic limited to the right lanes. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) continue to direct drivers to exercise heightened caution. DNIT has formed a task‑force to restore the pavement, but no definitive timeline for full reopening has been provided. The emergency status allows the agency to expedite repairs and ensure safety for road users.

Local officials noted that, despite the lane restrictions, traffic flow has remained largely fluid with no major congestion reported.
