Brazil defeats India 4-0 in historic Kolkata football match

The Indian national football team suffered a 4-0 defeat against Brazil during a historic international match at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata. Despite the heavy loss, the event marked the first time the Brazilian senior team played an international match on Indian soil, drawing a crowd of over 50,000 supporters.

Brazil's goals were scored by Estevao, Joao Pedro, and two from Samuel Lino. Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu provided notable resistance, including a save against Vinicius Junior. Following the match, Arsenal midfielder Bruno Guimaraes praised the Indian supporters, stating, “To receive the affection of the fans was great.”

However, the performance has drawn sharp criticism regarding the tactical direction of the team under Khalid Jamil and the financial decisions of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Critics have described the heavy investment in hosting elite global teams as a “vanity-fueled catastrophe,” noting that the team struggled with defensive structure and transition mechanics against high-level opposition.
