Brazil Deputy Júlia Zanatta Targets Misogyny Bill and Lula Impeachment

Deputy Júlia Zanatta (PL‑SC) said the proposed "Misogyny Bill" in Brazil threatens freedom of expression because of its vague language and could institutionalise censorship. In an interview with lawyer Larissa Dornelles she warned that the bill’s broad concepts might lead to legal uncertainty, false accusations and affect hiring decisions, and urged stricter penalties for frivolous claims.

Separately, Zanatta began collecting signatures to submit an impeachment request against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, citing a post by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio that accused Lula of negotiating in bad faith with the United States. She plans to file the complaint in August, seeking documents and testimonies from officials involved in the negotiations, and reports support from 21 fellow parliamentarians.
