Brazil Designates September as National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month
The Brazilian government enacted Law 15.465/2026, published on 10 September, to establish the National Month of Awareness and Dissemination of Cystic Fibrosis – known as “Setembro Roxo.” The legislation originated from Bill 4.368/2020 introduced by Deputy Pedro Westphalen and was reported in the Senate by Senator Flávio Arns (PSB‑PR). It seeks to promote early diagnosis, provide guidance to health managers and professionals, and publicize services available through the SUS. The law amends Law 12.136/2009, which had previously designated only 5 September as a single awareness day. Purple is confirmed as the international symbol for the cause. The Senate’s Social Affairs Committee approved the measure unanimously, and the campaign will run alongside other September health initiatives such as suicide prevention (September Yellow) and cardiovascular disease awareness.
