Brazil Detran extends validity of 2026 driver’s licenses
The Brazilian traffic authority Detran has automatically extended the validity of driver’s licenses (CNH) and motorcycle licences (ACC) that were set to expire between June 5 and September 8 2026. Under Conselho Nacional de Trânsito (CONTRAN) Resolution 278/2026, these documents remain valid nationwide until September 9 2026, after which the standard 30‑day grace period applies, allowing drivers to renew by October 9 2026.
The extension requires no action by motorists: no application, fee, or new physical card is needed. Traffic systems will recognise the new deadline, and drivers may continue to use the existing printed or digital licence during the extended period. The measure excludes licences of drivers whose right to drive is suspended or cancelled.
