Brazil: Digital driver's licenses issued faster in Goiás

The State Transit Department of Goiás (Detran-GO) has implemented a new digital system that allows approved candidates to receive their digital driver's license (CNH digital) within 30 minutes of completing their practical driving exam. By replacing paper and pens with tablets, examiners can input data in real time, eliminating manual entry errors and reducing bureaucracy. Currently, this service is available in Goiânia and its metropolitan area, with plans to expand to all 246 municipalities in the state.

While the digital license holds the same legal validity as the printed version throughout Brazil, drivers must adhere to specific technical requirements during traffic stops. According to the Brazilian Traffic Code, motorists can be fined if they present only screenshots or photos of the document instead of the official digital version, or if they are unable to display it due to a dead phone battery and the officer cannot verify their status via the electronic system.
