Brazil: Disability inclusion initiatives and Catholic electoral guidance

Willian Ferreira da Cunha, the Secretary for Persons with Disabilities of the Federal District, has outlined key strategies for accessibility and social inclusion in Brasília. Highlighting that a lack of information remains a primary obstacle, the Secretary emphasized the transition of his department to a State Secretariat to increase technical autonomy. Key initiatives include professional qualification programs in partnership with Senac and the Labor Public Ministry, as well as the promotion of the 'Inclusion Aid' to support financial autonomy for those entering the formal workforce.

Separately, Cardinal Jaime Spengler, President of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), addressed the role of Catholic discernment in the upcoming elections. In a podcast series, Spengler discussed the responsibility of Christians to participate in the political process and the importance of evaluating candidates based on their life histories and commitments rather than just campaign promises. The discussions emphasize the connection between faith, citizenship, and the pursuit of the common good.
