Brazil discusses cryptocurrency tracking and seizure in France

Brazilian authorities from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security participated in international debates in Strasbourg, France, focused on the tracking and seizure of cryptocurrencies. Led by Márcio Júlio da Silva Mattos, the substitute director of the Department of Asset Recovery and International Legal Cooperation (DRCI), the delegation joined experts from over 100 countries to discuss methods for combating cybercrime and recovering illicit assets abroad.

The discussions emphasized cooperation with exchanges to preserve digital evidence and enable the rapid freezing of virtual assets. The agenda included the Octopus 2026 Conference and the Budapest Convention plenary session. Additionally, the Council of Europe opened signatures for an additional protocol to the Warsaw Convention, which expands legal mechanisms for nations to identify and confiscate assets linked to criminal factions.

Authorities also examined how criminal organizations utilize artificial intelligence for phishing attacks and malicious code. The delegation aims to incorporate new monitoring and data reading methods into Brazil’s Strategic Laboratory Against Crime (LabCrim) to better respond to decentralized criminal networks.
