Brazil economic debate focuses on fiscal adjustment and interest rates
During the 4th edition of the Brasil Hoje Seminar in São Paulo, economic leaders debated fiscal adjustment, interest rates, and the role of the state in Brazil's economic growth.
Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services Esther Dweck stated that the government is on a path toward fiscal consolidation, noting that interest rate behavior is influenced by external factors, such as United States rates, rather than just domestic public accounts.
Economist Daniella Marques, representing the economic coordination of Flávio Bolsonaro's presidential campaign, proposed a review of taxes and a reduction in bureaucracy. She suggested that a sustainable drop in interest rates requires fiscal responsibility and a government focused on reducing privileges, tax benefits, and the size of the public machine without altering social programs.
