Brazil economic indicators show mixed results amid inflation and fiscal concerns

Brazil's economic landscape shows conflicting signals across various indicators. The Central Bank's Focus report indicates that market projections for 2026 inflation (IPCA) have risen to 5.22%, while the 2027 estimate increased slightly to 4.32%. Conversely, GDP growth projections for 2026 were revised downward from 1.85% to 1.83%, and 2027 growth expectations fell from 1.40% to 1.32%.

Recent activity data presents a recovery after two months of contraction. The FGV PIB Monitor reported a 0.5% expansion in August, driven by extractive industry and services, bringing the 12-month accumulated growth to 1.8%. Similarly, the Central Bank's IBC-Br index rose 0.3% in August, though the indicator fell 0.6% over the most recent quarter.

Fiscal stability remains a point of concern. Projections for the 2026 primary deficit have increased to R$53.048 billion, with public debt expected to reach 83.40% of GDP. Additionally, the IGP-10 inflation index rose 1.76% in October, exceeding economist expectations of 1.44%, largely due to higher producer prices in the automotive gasoline and agricultural sectors.
