Brazil educational forums advocate for early dyslexia screening
Specialists and lawmakers in Brazil are calling for early screening of dyslexia and other learning disorders within early childhood education. During the 1st District Forum for Dyslexia Awareness in the Federal District, organized by the Movimento para a Inclusão (Movin), participants highlighted a critical lack of official data regarding neurodivergent students to inform public policy.
In a separate initiative marking World Dyslexia Awareness Day, the State Secretariat of Education (SED) conducted mobilization efforts at the Mariluce Bittar Teacher Training Center. The program aims to sensitize professionals to the specificities of dyslexia and combat social stigmas. Currently, 162 students with dyslexia are enrolled in the State Education Network and receive specialized pedagogical support through the Pedagogical Support Room Unit (Unisap).
Advocates, including District Deputy Eduardo Pedrosa, are pushing for structured government actions, including continuous educator training, adapted assessments, and accessible multidisciplinary support in both public and private school systems.
