Brazil educational projects use arts to promote inclusion and identity
Educational initiatives in Brazil are utilizing arts and culture to foster identity and social inclusion. In São Paulo, the “Arranjos Periféricos: letramento racial, afeto e resistência” project at EMEF Professor Antonio Prudente uses music to promote anti-racist education. Developed by teachers Elaine Regina Chagas Santos, José Gabriel Diaz Perez Poeta, and Helenice Moreira Dias, the interdisciplinary program integrates music with history and mathematics to empower students through their own cultural and ancestral narratives.
In Goiânia, the Municipal Education Secretariat (SME) is organizing the II Cultural Exhibition of Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Held at the Legislative Assembly of the State of Goiás, the event features artistic works including paintings, sculptures, and poetry from 18 educational units. The exhibition, themed “Saberes, Arte e Identidades,” aims to highlight the pedagogical productions of adult learners and strengthen their sense of belonging and school retention.
