Brazil egg market records lowest white‑red price spread amid weak sales
Weak egg sales in the first half of July 2024 lowered the price differential between white and red eggs in Brazil's main monitoring region, Maria de Jetibá (Espírito Santo). The average spread fell to R$ 15.22 per crate, a 38.6% decline from June and 24.4% lower than the same period in 2025, marking the smallest gap of the year.
Analysts from the Center for Agribusiness Studies (Cepea) attributed the compression to excess inventories and reduced trading liquidity, prompting producers to grant discounts to move stock. The tighter spread squeezes margins, especially for red‑egg specialists that usually command a market premium. Future spread movements will hinge on a rebound in consumer demand, seasonal factors, or improved purchasing power.
