Brazil electoral authorities issue integrity guidelines for 2026 elections

The Electoral Public Ministry (MP Eleitoral) sent a recommendation to party leaders in the state of Amapá, urging political parties to adopt integrity, oversight and governance protocols for the 2026 elections. The measures include requiring criminal‑record certificates for all pre‑candidates, establishing internal checks for links to organized crime or illegal financing, and barring suspected individuals from party conventions and candidacy filings. Parties have ten working days to report the steps they will take.

Separately, the State Attorney General’s Office of Amazonas (PGE‑AM) released a Manual of Prohibited Conduct for public agents during the 2026 electoral period. The manual details restrictions on the use of public assets, institutional publicity, social‑media activity, hiring practices and other actions to ensure legal compliance, transparency and the continuity of public services throughout the campaign.
