Brazil electoral court blocks R$227k from Bolsonaro's ex‑wife

The Regional Electoral Court of the Federal District (TRE‑DF) ordered the blocking of R$227,669.95 in Ana Cristina Valle’s bank accounts. Valle, the former wife of ex‑president Jair Bolsonaro and mother of his son Jair Renan Bolsonaro, must repay the amount to the Union because it was spent on campaign activities in the 2022 election without proper documentation. The court found that roughly half of the campaign’s declared expenses – about R$134,400 – were not substantiated, leading to a rejection of the accounts and a fine that includes monetary correction, penalties and attorney fees.

Valle, who ran unsuccessfully for a District Federal deputy seat in 2022, failed to provide invoices, contracts or service receipts for spending on militancy, fuel, rentals and online advertising. She ignored two judicial summons for clarification, prompting the judge to deem her “inactive” and to authorize execution of assets through the Sisbajud system. If the blocked funds are insufficient, the court may seize additional assets such as real estate or vehicles.
