Brazil electric vehicle market expands with new models and infrastructure
The electric vehicle (EV) market in Brazil is experiencing rapid growth and structural shifts. Sales of electrified vehicles rose 125% in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year, reaching over 215,000 units. This surge is driving competition in the entry-level segment, with models like the BYD Dolphin Mini, JAC E-JS1, and Geely EX2 offering prices below R$ 150,000.
To support this growing fleet, infrastructure investments are increasing. Brazil has implemented its first 1,500 kW ultra-fast charging unit, and the company Enerzee has announced a R$ 100 million investment to deploy 100 charging stations across the South, Southeast, and Center-West regions.
Automakers are also diversifying their offerings. Volvo has returned to the sedan segment with the high-performance ES90, a luxury electric model featuring 680 cv and advanced connected safety technology. This technology uses vehicle-to-infrastructure communication to provide real-time alerts for large animals, vulnerable road users, roadwork, and accidents ahead.
However, the transition presents new challenges for the insurance industry. As electrified vehicles now represent 17.1% of insurance quotes, providers must adapt to new risk variables, including specialized repair needs, part availability, and the high cost of advanced onboard technology.
