Brazil electricity tariffs move to green flag for October

Brazil's National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) has confirmed the implementation of the ‘green flag’ tariff for October, meaning consumers will not face additional charges on their electricity bills after five months of extra fees. While this removes the yellow flag surcharge of R$ 1.885 per 100 kWh, experts warn that high temperatures could drive up consumption and total costs.

In the North region, the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) predicts temperatures above average and below-average rainfall, which may increase the use of air conditioning and fans.

To manage costs, Energisa is encouraging customers, particularly in rural areas, to use ‘self-reading’ services via digital channels like the Energisa On app. This practice helps avoid billing based on average consumption when meter readers cannot access properties. In Rondônia, self-reading usage grew by over 55% in 2025 compared to 2024.
