China and Brazil see record growth in electric vehicle sales

The automotive markets in China and Brazil are seeing significant shifts toward electrification. In China, electric and hybrid vehicles reached a record 65.2% of total sales in August, driven by rising fuel prices and reduced range anxiety among consumers.

In Brazil, the electrified vehicle market is approaching a historic milestone. Data from the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE) indicates that the country is nearing 1 million total electrified vehicles in circulation, with approximately 950,000 units recorded as of August. Electrified models accounted for roughly 22% of light vehicle sales in August, a record high for the country.

Growth in Brazil is being fueled by the localization of manufacturing by companies such as BYD and GWM, alongside improvements in charging infrastructure. While battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) represent the majority of the electrified segment, the market also includes hybrid electric vehicles (HEV).
