Brazil electrified vehicle market sees rapid growth and regional shifts

The electrified vehicle market in Brazil is experiencing significant growth and regional shifts. In August 2026, the Northeast region recorded 12,453 electrified light vehicle registrations, accounting for 21.7% of national sales. This performance placed the Northeast in second place, surpassing the South region by 2,395 units.

Nationally, total electrified vehicle sales reached 57,386 units in August, with the Southeast leading at 41.8%. Within the electrified segment, plug-in models dominated, comprising 47,701 units. This included 27,166 battery electric vehicles (BEV) and 20,535 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).

Data from the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE) indicates a broader trend, with 215,023 hybrid and electric light vehicles registered in the first half of 2026, a 125% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This surge is driving technological changes in the automotive industry, particularly in thermal management and high-voltage electric compressors, as climate control systems must now integrate with battery and power electronics management.
