Brazil electronics prices surge ahead of Children's Day
Prices for Children's Day gifts in Brazil are rising significantly, driven largely by high-value electronics. Studies from GestãoClick and FecomercioSP indicate that the cost of popular gift items has increased by nearly 6% over the last 12 months, outstripping the national inflation rate.
Electronics are the primary drivers of this trend. Video game consoles saw price hikes between 12.04% and 13.52%, while personal computers increased by approximately 10%. These surges are attributed to global supply chain constraints and a high demand for memory chips and semiconductors, fueled by the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure. In some regions, DRAM memory prices rose between 93% and 98% in early 2026.
Other consumer goods also showed price increases. Chocolate prices rose by 12.22% due to high international cocoa costs, perfumes increased by 10.02%, and children's clothing saw a reversal from previous declines to an 8.13% increase. Small business owners are facing difficult choices, with some absorbing the higher costs to maintain sales volume while others pass the increases directly to consumers.
