Brazil embraces AI in education while stressing the irreplaceable role of teachers

Artificial intelligence is now part of daily study for most Brazilian students, with seven out of ten high‑school pupils using AI tools, yet only 32% report receiving proper guidance. At the Bett Educar 2026 conference in São Paulo, Cíntia Costa, project manager at instructional‑design firm Designa, argued that teachers remain essential and called for ethical standards and clear public policies to ensure AI serves as a complement, not a substitute, in the classroom.

Separately, journalist Francine Spinasse of A Tribuna was awarded the 9th ABMES National Journalism Prize in Brasília for her report on how AI is transforming university teaching. Spinasse highlighted that AI is already reshaping education, the labour market and learning methods, underscoring the need for critical thinking and effective questioning in the era of intelligent technologies.
