Brazil encourages home waste reuse: legume cooking water for indoor plants and tea bags for toilet cleaning
Domestic sustainability tips in Brazil highlight two simple reuse methods. Cooking water from legumes such as chickpeas, lentils, beans or peas can be collected, cooled and applied to indoor plants without added salt. The water contains modest amounts of minerals, proteins and carbohydrates that can complement regular fertilisation when used every two to three weeks during spring and summer.
A separate practice uses used tea bags, especially black tea, in the toilet bowl to reduce light stains and odors. Tannins in the tea act as mild adstringents that soften organic residues. The bags are placed on stained areas for several hours, then the bowl is brushed and flushed. The method is intended as a regular maintenance aid and does not replace stronger disinfectants where needed.
