Brazil Enforces New Autism Access Rules in Hospitals, Clinics, and Venues

A federal court ordered the Hospital Universitário Bettina Ferro de Souza in Belém to resume treatment for people with autism spectrum disorder (TEA) referred by the public system. The injunction gives the hospital 30 days to comply and threatens fines of R$10,000 per day for non‑compliance.

In the municipality of Assis Brasil, Acre, the health secretariat organized a two‑day mobile clinic offering multidisciplinary evaluations and therapies for children and adolescents with autism. The service was held at the Edilsa Maria Batista school and was promoted by the mayor as a step toward more humane and accessible care.

The city of Santos approved a complementary law that obliges stadiums, arenas and other venues with a capacity of 5,000 or more to provide sensory‑friendly spaces, dedicated tickets and trained staff for autistic attendees. The regulation, effective 180 days after publication, includes fines for violations.
