Brazil: Entrepreneur dies after six cosmetic surgeries in Goiânia

Andreia Vieira Gaspar, a 51-year-old entrepreneur residing in Spain, died in Goiânia, Brazil, following a series of six aesthetic procedures. The surgeries, which lasted over eight hours, included a deep-plane facelift, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, blepharoplasty, neck liposuction, and fat grafting.

Following the intervention, Gaspar experienced severe swelling of the tongue and difficulty breathing. Her family alleges that medical staff failed to take her symptoms seriously, dismissing them as nervousness. The medical report cited acute thrombosis and a pulmonary infarction as the causes of death.

The family has raised several allegations of medical negligence, claiming the hospital lacked an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and an available ambulance. They also stated that the doctors were informed of a potential bacterial infection identified in tests conducted in Spain prior to the trip, but failed to investigate it further. Additionally, they noted that the patient had arranged the surgery via social media and telephone without a prior in-person consultation. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Goiás has requested a police investigation to determine if manslaughter occurred.
