Brazil environmental initiatives focus on waste removal and species conservation

Environmental conservation efforts are underway across different Brazilian regions. In the state of São Paulo, the ‘Tecendo as Águas’ project, a partnership between Instituto Supereco and Petrobras, has removed over 18 tons of waste from beaches, rivers, mangroves, and coastal areas in Santos, Bertioga, São Sebastião, Ilhabela, and Caraguatatuba. The collected debris includes significant amounts of plastic, such as bags, bottles, and food packaging, alongside glass, aluminum, and cigarette butts.

In Parintins, the municipal government and the ‘Projeto Pé-de-Pincha’ have launched a new cycle of turtle conservation. A training course was held for nearly 50 members from 11 local communities to coordinate the collection and management of turtle eggs during the summer season. This initiative involves collaboration between local communities, technical experts, and institutions such as the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) to ensure the protection and reproduction of Amazonian turtle species.
