Brazil establishes legal framework to boost video game industry
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed a decree establishing a legal framework to stimulate Brazil's video game industry. The initiative aims to expand financing, professional training, and the promotion of Brazilian productions in both domestic and international markets.
The package includes approximately 460 million reais (about 92 million USD) in credits for the audiovisual industry, including video games. Additional programs will allocate 50 million reais each toward infrastructure and independent game production, alongside a 200 million reais fund to support startups and innovation projects.
To bolster professional talent, the decree creates 230 university positions across five federal universities. Furthermore, the ‘Game Brasil’ public platform will be launched to provide free access to information and digital storage for games funded by public resources for use in education, research, and health sectors. The regulation also includes measures for user protection, particularly for children and adolescents, and provisions for intellectual property protection.
