Brazil Launches National Elderly Rights Protection Network
On Monday, 15 June 2026, Brazil established a nationwide Protection and Defense Network for the rights of older people, as set out in Ordinance No. 1.058/2026 issued by the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship. The network is designed to strengthen coordination among the Union, states, municipalities and civil‑society entities, promoting cooperative federalism, encouraging demographic diagnostics, boosting social participation and supporting forums that defend elderly rights.
The initiative will be coordinated by the National Secretariat for the Rights of Older Persons together with the National Council for the Rights of Older Persons. Participation is voluntary; each institution bears the costs of its involvement. Members must share information, monitor public policies and submit action plans that follow the network’s guidelines.
