Brazil establishes safety requirements for electric fences

Federal Law 13.477/2017 establishes specific safety requirements for the installation and maintenance of electric fences in both rural and urban areas across Brazil. These structures are commonly used for livestock management, pasture division, and property protection.

To prevent risks to humans and animals, the law mandates that energizing equipment must produce non-lethal, continuous current pulsating shocks. All installations must comply with the standards set by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT). Experts emphasize that improper adaptations, such as connecting electrified wires directly to power outlets, are prohibited due to safety and performance risks.
