Brazil ETF market expands as active management regulation nears

The Brazilian ETF market is experiencing significant expansion, with net equity growing by 116.3% over the past year, according to Anbima. This growth has seen the number of ETFs in the country rise from 15 to 225 over the last decade, with net inflows reaching R$ 42.5 billion by September 2026.

Market attention is now shifting toward the introduction of actively managed ETFs. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil (CVM) has identified the regulation of these products as a priority for the current year. Unlike passive ETFs, active management allows fund managers to select specific assets to attempt to outperform benchmarks while maintaining liquidity and transparency.

In related market activity, the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (EWZ) traded up 0.22% in New York. The ETF has recorded a cumulative appreciation of 35% since the start of January.
