Brazil executive salaries and management legalities
High-level management roles in Brazil are seeing significant salary variations and complex legal implications regarding job classifications. Headhunter Fábio Salomon notes that top executive positions can command monthly salaries between R$ 70,000 and R$ 80,000, driven by a demand for leaders capable of managing crises and judicial recoveries. In contrast, middle management salaries have remained relatively flat, typically ranging from R$ 15,000 to R$ 20,000.
Legal expert Giovana Atarasi Jurca warns that high compensation and formal titles do not automatically qualify an employee for ‘trust positions’ (cargo de confiança), which would exempt them from standard working hour protections. She emphasizes the ‘principle of reality,’ noting that many employees with high salaries or power of attorney lack actual decision-making authority, such as the ability to hire, fire, or adjust budgets independently. Under Brazilian labor principles, true management status depends on the actual exercise of power rather than just job titles or pay scales.
