Brazil expands 5G connectivity and ISP technological integration
Brazil has reached 69.8 million 5G mobile connections, accounting for approximately 24.9% of the country's total mobile base. According to Anatel's third-quarter 2026 Competition Monitoring Report, 5G connections grew by 30.7% year-over-year, adding roughly 16.4 million accesses compared to the third quarter of 2025. While 4G remains the predominant technology, it has seen a decline in users, losing approximately 4.6 million connections over the past year.
In addition to mobile expansion, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Brazil are evolving their business models. Industry experts at a CPQD panel noted that after investing heavily in optical access networks like GPON, ISPs are now diversifying into wireless connectivity and mobile services. There is also an increasing focus on utilizing Artificial Intelligence to optimize network costs, improve profit margins, and enhance customer service experiences to maintain competitiveness in the market.
