Brazil expands access to obesity and diabetes treatments
The Brazilian pharmaceutical market is seeing significant developments in treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes. Mantecorp has introduced Semavy, a medication utilizing synthetic semaglutide technology. Semaglutide mimics the GLP-1 hormone, which plays a critical role in blood glucose control and satiety.
Additionally, the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) has approved two generic medications based on liraglutide. These generics, which will be marketed by the Brazilian pharmaceutical company EMS, allow for sales under the active ingredient name rather than a specific brand. This regulatory move is expected to increase competition and potentially lower costs for patients managing chronic conditions.
