Brazil expands AI traffic cameras on Raposo Tavares highway and launches new monitoring center in Itatiaia

In the state of São Paulo, Ecovias Raposo Castello installed two AI‑enabled cameras on the Raposo Tavares highway. In the first 72 hours of operation the system recorded more than 1,000 traffic violations, with 40 % related to missing seat‑belt use, 30 % to drivers not wearing seat belts, and another 30 % to cellphone use while driving. The concessionaire plans to add further AI cameras on the Castello Branco and Raposo Tavares corridors, bringing the total to over 200 devices by September.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Itatiaia announced the construction of a new Central de Monitoramento at the municipal bus terminal. The center will integrate live feeds from more than 100 cameras installed across neighborhoods such as Maringá, Maromba, Vila Flórida, Centro, Jardim Itatiaia and Campo Alegre. It will serve the municipal Guard, the Military Police and the Civil Defense, enhancing preventive patrols, crime response and emergency management. New equipment for officers and plans for future drones and additional security devices were also disclosed.
