Brazil expands Blue Flag certified destinations for 2026/2027 season
Brazil has expanded its network of destinations receiving the international Blue Flag (Bandeira Azul) certification for the 2026/2027 season. The program, coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), recognizes locations based on water quality, environmental management, safety, and infrastructure.
Rio de Janeiro now holds the second-largest network in the country with 20 certified destinations, including 19 beaches and one marina. New additions in the Lagos Region include Praia das Caravelas in Búzios, Praia do Pontal in Arraial do Cabo, and Praia de Gravatá in Saquarema. In Niterói, Praia do Sossego has secured the certification for the sixth consecutive year, supported by significant sanitation investments.
Bahia ranks third nationally in the number of certified beaches, with seven locations recognized. Four of these are situated in Camaçari, specifically in the Guarajuba and Itacimirim areas, establishing the region as a leader in sustainable tourism within the Northeast. In total, 75 Brazilian destinations, comprising 63 beaches and 12 marinas across seven states, have been approved by the international jury.
