Brazil expands climate‑disaster training for municipal teams and private managers

The Brazilian Ministry of Cities has extended the registration deadline for its free, virtual "Urgency Climate" course, which aims to build capacity in vulnerable urban areas. The program will train ten municipal technical teams, offering about 45 hours of instruction, live group sessions, and certification for participants who meet attendance requirements. Registration is open until 7 July on the ReDUS platform.

Separately, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) announced a new free training program for public and private sector managers focused on climate‑disaster prevention. Up to 1,000 participants can enroll, with courses beginning on 20 July and certification provided by the National School of Statistical Sciences. The training is linked to IBGE’s newly launched Singed Lab Desastres platform, which consolidates geoscientific and statistical data to support planning and response to extreme climate events such as the anticipated strong El Niño episode.
