Brazil expands financing options for small businesses and limited companies

Brazilian small and medium-sized enterprises (MPMEs) have several pathways to access credit through BNDES. The development bank typically operates via accredited financial institutions that pass resources to micro, small, and medium companies. BNDES provides specific products, such as the BNDES Credit for MPMEs, and maintains dedicated channels like 'Canal MPME' to offer guidance and operational rules for these businesses.

Additionally, a recent regulatory shift in Brazil allows limited liability companies (sociedades limitadas) to issue debentures. Following guidance from the National Department of Business Registration and Integration (DREI) in 2026, commercial boards can now archive acts from limited companies regarding debenture issuance. This provides an alternative to traditional bank loans or bringing in new partners, as it allows companies to raise capital by issuing debt instruments while maintaining their original corporate structure and control.
