Brazil expands housing programs with 85,000 new homes

The Brazilian federal government has announced the selection of proposals for 85,000 new homes under the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program. This represents a 66% increase over the initial projection of 61,000 units, with a planned investment of R$ 10 billion sourced from the Social Development Fund (FDS).

The expansion includes 50,000 homes designated for rural areas through the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Rural modality, targeting family farmers, indigenous peoples, and quilombola communities. An additional 35,000 urban units will be built via the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Entidades modality, which involves associations, cooperatives, and unions in the development of housing projects for families with monthly incomes up to R$ 3.2 thousand.

At the municipal level, the City of Jataí has launched the Casa Jataiense housing policy. The program initially forecasts 820 new homes, with the first phase consisting of 400 apartments. The initiative includes the creation of a permanent municipal housing registry to manage future selections based on technical and social criteria.
