Brazil expands HPV vaccination access and target groups
Health authorities in Brazil are implementing measures to expand HPV vaccination coverage. In Maceió, the Health Secretariat has expanded the target audience to include children aged 2 to 8 of both sexes who have been victims of sexual violence. This follows recommendations from the National Immunization Program (PNI) to protect this vulnerable group against sexually transmitted infections.
In São José dos Pinhais, the HPV vaccine is available at all Basic Health Units (UBS). While routine immunization is indicated for boys and girls aged 9 to 14, the city is also conducting a rescue strategy for adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 19 who have not yet received the dose. The vaccination aims to prevent various cancers, including cervical, penile, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers.
