Brazil expands infrastructure and trade ties with Asian markets
Brazil is strengthening its logistical ties with Asia through both government initiatives and private sector expansion. Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, concluded an international mission through China and Singapore, reporting significant interest from Asian investors in Brazilian infrastructure projects. During meetings with major entities such as COSCO Shipping, China Merchants Port Holdings, and the New Development Bank, the Minister highlighted that Brazil’s institutional and regulatory security makes its port, airport, and waterway projects attractive for long-term investment.
Complementing these diplomatic efforts, Porto Itapoá has officially opened a new office in Shanghai to facilitate direct connections with the Chinese market. This strategic move aims to strengthen commercial relations and attract new clients, shipowners, and trading companies. The importance of the Chinese market is reflected in Porto Itapoá’s operations, where China accounted for 49.4% of imports and 17.9% of exports during the first half of 2026, with a strong focus on agro-industrial and forestry products.
