Brazil IoT market shifts toward hybrid cellular and satellite connectivity
The Internet of Things (IoT) landscape in Brazil is undergoing a significant shift toward hybrid connectivity, combining cellular and satellite networks to address coverage gaps. Since Anatel approved the certification of technologies like NB-NTN, RedCap, and LTE Cat 1bis in early 2025, hybrid trackers have become increasingly common in the market.
NLT Telecom has announced a partnership with floLIVE and Skylo to integrate direct-to-device (D2D) and non-terrestrial network (NTN) connectivity into its NLT One platform. This solution allows IoT devices to utilize terrestrial cellular networks where available and automatically switch to satellite services in areas with limited or no mobile coverage. This capability is aimed at critical sectors such as agribusiness, logistics, transportation, and industrial operations.
Industry experts note that while satellite connectivity was previously considered a luxury, it is becoming a standard feature to ensure continuous connection for assets like livestock, containers, and machinery in remote regions where up to 82% of Brazil lacks adequate cellular coverage.
