GDF launches educational blitz against elder abuse in Brasília

On Monday 16 June, the Government of the Federal District (GDF) conducted a public‑education action in Praça do Buriti, Brasília, to mark the World Day for Awareness of Violence against Older Persons. The event, organized by the Executive Head of Innovation and Social Integration and coordinated with the District’s Public‑Security Secretariat, ran from 10 a.m. to noon and featured a traffic‑blitz in which police vehicles stopped cars, distributed leaflets and explained the signs of elder abuse.

Materials presented the various forms of violence – psychological, financial, patrimonial or neglect – and listed the official channels for reporting. Fabrício Faleiro, the district’s first‑cavalier, emphasized that “educational actions play a fundamental role in combating aggression against older people,” while Regilene Siqueira Rozal, executive secretary for Public‑Security Policies, reiterated the government’s commitment to protect the dignity and rights of the elderly.

The initiative was planned to avoid any disruption to local traffic and included participation from the “Turminha Mais Segura” outreach team, which engaged directly with citizens throughout the two‑hour window.
