Brazil expands Maria da Penha school training and holds 20‑year seminar

The State Secretariat of Education of the Federal District (SEEDF) opened registrations for the "Maria da Penha na Escola" program, offering two 120‑hour hybrid courses that begin on 18 August. One course addresses sexual violence in schools, the other focuses on violence against women, aiming to equip educators and protection‑network staff with skills to identify risk, intervene and create safer school environments.

In Campo Grande, a two‑day seminar titled "Lei Maria da Penha – 20 Anos" was held on 3‑4 August at the Centro Universitário Insted. Organized by the Casa da Mulher Brasileira, Insted and the Secretaria Executiva da Mulher (Semu), the event gathered specialists, service professionals, students and community members to discuss the law's achievements, ongoing challenges and future policy directions for protecting women.
