Brazil expands Minha Casa, Minha Vida housing initiatives

The Brazilian federal government, through the Ministry of Cities, has approved 716 new housing units under the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Rural program. These units will be distributed across Maranhão (620), Piauí (50), and Rio Grande do Sul (46), targeting rural workers, family farmers, and traditional communities.

In other regional developments, the state of Rio Grande do Norte has authorized the construction of 60 low-income homes in São Miguel do Gostoso, Paraná, and Santa Maria, representing an investment of R$ 9.18 million. Additionally, the municipality of Parauapebas has begun site preparation for the Residencial Flor de Carajás, a project consisting of 496 apartments aimed at vulnerable families.

In a shift toward new housing models, the developer Cury is testing social rental schemes in Barra Funda. This pilot project involves 10 apartments designed to provide affordable housing in central areas, offering rents significantly below market averages to help low-income residents access better employment and education opportunities.
