Brazil expands Portuguese language programs for immigrants

Various initiatives in Brazil are providing free Portuguese language courses to help immigrants integrate into local communities and enter the workforce.

In Cocal do Sul, the municipal government has partnered with the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFSC) to offer weekly classes. The program aims to facilitate communication, promote cultural understanding, and increase autonomy for foreign residents living in the municipality.

In Palotina, the cooperative Sicredi Vale do Piquiri Abcd PR/SP, in partnership with Uniguaçu University, recently certified over 40 foreign students, including citizens from Venezuela, Cuba, and Haiti. The project, which has served approximately 150 people since its pilot phase in 2024, aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals regarding quality education and the reduction of inequalities.
