Brazilian Municipalities Open New Primary Health Units
The city of Ilhéus inaugurated a newly renovated primary health unit in the Banco da Vitória neighbourhood and announced plans to start tendering for the renovation of four additional units. In Cardoso Moreira, a new basic health unit named after community leader Enésio Soares da Silva was opened in the São Luís district, improving local access to medical, nursing and vaccination services.
In Morro da Fumaça, the municipal health secretariat completed a R$500 million health‑mutirão that cleared waiting lists for thousands of specialist consultations and diagnostic exams, and a new health unit is scheduled to open in the Brasília neighbourhood of Criciúma. The initiative also included a major investment in ultrasound examinations.
Maringá’s UBS Quebec added a temporary pediatric care point, staffed by over 40 professionals, to relieve the municipal hospital’s Paediatric Urgent Care (PAC) and provide extended hours for low‑urgency cases. These coordinated actions across several Brazilian municipalities aim to modernise primary‑care infrastructure, expand service capacity and reduce patient wait times.
