Brazil expands regional aviation infrastructure with new airport investments
Regional aviation infrastructure is undergoing significant upgrades in Brazil. In Mato Grosso do Sul, the Santa Maria Aerodrome is receiving a R$ 45 million investment from the state government. The project includes expanding the runway from 1,500 to 1,800 meters, applying new pavement, and installing safety equipment to allow for instrument-based operations. Once completed and certified, the facility aims to transition from an aerodrome to an airport, primarily serving general and executive aviation.
In Santa Catarina, the Ismael Nunes Airport in São Joaquim has received authorization for a R$ 3.3 million modernization project. The works will include the construction of a new passenger terminal, a parking area, and a runway lighting system, specifically the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI). These improvements are intended to optimize air traffic in the mountainous region and support executive, health, and security flights following the airport's reopening in 2024.
