Brazil expands specialized support and training for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Specialized institutions and educational bodies in Brazil are increasing efforts to address the rising demand for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) support. In Campinas, the PAICA Reference Center, in partnership with Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic, is hosting the 4th ASD Seminar. This event aims to facilitate knowledge exchange between specialists, families, and professionals regarding diagnosis, motor development, crisis management, and food selectivity.

The urgency of these initiatives is highlighted by data from the Campinas municipal education network, which reported a 1,204% increase in students with ASD between 2014 and 2024. PAICA has expanded its service capacity from 6 to 85 children and adolescents since 2022, though it currently maintains a waiting list.

In Ubatuba, representatives from the Municipal Department of Special Education and APAE de Ubatuba participated in the ‘Autismo em Pauta’ immersion event organized by FEAPAES. The program focused on strengthening inclusive education practices and improving humanized care for individuals with ASD and their families through professional collaboration.
